SAN Miguel Beer, a team loaded with firepower but lacks a player, who provides energy, is bringing back the energetic Gabe Freeman.
The 6’6” Freeman led the Beermen to the Fiesta Conference crown against sister team Ginebra Gin Kings in a record-drawing finale that went the distance. The returning import is also fresh from steering the Philippine Patriots to the Asean Basketball League championship.
San Miguel Beer coach Siot Tanquingcen believes the young reinforcement is the right guy for his team.
“We need an energy-type of guy and Gabe is certainly the kind of import we need,” Tanquingcen told Standard Today in a telephone interview. “We won’t go for someone, who will fight for a spot in terms of scoring, but someone willing to do the dirty job, so we’re counting on him.”
San Miguel Beer lost to the Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants in their battle for the last finals seat, bowing down in six games. Trailing 1-2 in the series, the Giants won the next three games en route to the championship round.
