HIGH-SCHOOL standout Jeron Teng has emerged as one of the most sought-after rookie prospects in the coming 75th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.
Three schools have openly gone after the 16-year-old Teng, who said he remains undecided.
Teng’s presence in the UAAP in the coming season will challenge the dominance of Ateneo sophomore point guard Kiefer Ravena and National University hotshot Bobby Ray Parks.
Supporters of four-peat champion Ateneo and many-time titlist La Salle have reportedly sent feelers to Teng. Officials of NU have also sent an invitation for him to join their scrimmages.
But Teng remained focused on the inter-secondary cage sorties of his team the Xavier School Golden Stallions and his studies as well.
“There is no decision yet. NU also has a good offer. They had their eyes on Jeron since last year,” said Jeron’s father Alvin Teng, a retired Philippine Basketball Association player and now assistant coach of the Xavier Stallions.
The 6’1” Teng, who plays guard for his team, will have his last hurrah with the Golden Stallions when they defend their crown in the coming Metro Manila Tiong Lian cagefest.
Teng recently scored 43 points for the Golden Stallions when they beat the Arellano University Braves, 68-67, in overtime to win the junior crown of the Fr. Martin Division II Cup.
Last year, Teng scored 104 points for Xavier School when they went against Grace Christian High School in the Tiong Lian League.
He is described as a strong player, who can get rebounds and post up against smaller guards.
Teng, like his father, is said to be good at shooting perimeter jumpers and loves to drive inside the paint.
