Jeron Teng will suit up for the De La Salle Green Archers in the next season of the UAAP.

University of Santo Tomas Growling Tiger Jeric Teng broke the news regarding his younger brother’s status on his Twitter account.

“@jeronteng will play for DLSU,” Jeric wrote on his Twitter account @jericteng16.

De La Salle coach Gee Abanilla neither confirmed nor denied that Teng will play for the Green Archers to InterAKTV although he admitted that he had also heard the news.

Abanilla said that Teng will definitely be a big addition to the Green Archers, who missed the final four last season, if it becomes official.

“Malaking bagay sa amin si Jeron kasi siya lang talaga ‘yung blue-chip this year unlike last season na nandoon sila Bobby Ray Parks at Kiefer Ravena,” Abanilla said.

The Green Archers have been on the raw end of the recruitment battle for years so Teng’s recruitment is big news for the Taft-based squad that last tasted the crown in 2007 with a team led by JVee Casio, Cholo Villanueva, TY Tang and Rico Maierhofer.

Teng, son of former PBA enforcer Alvin Teng, wowed basketball observers when he scored 104 points for his Xavier School against Grace Christian College in the Tiong Lian Basketball Tournament last year.

That mark eclipsed even the NCAA record of 89 points by former Jose Rizal University standout Joshua Saret in 2009.

Teng also played for the Philippine team in the 2010 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship and the 2010 Youth Olympic Games three-on-three basketball tournament.

As much as I hoped for him to play alongside bro Jeric, Jeron to DLSU ain't surprising at all. Actually si Jeric sa DLSU din supposedly maglalaro, but when he got "snubbed" to play for a certain team selection handled by former DLSU mentor Franz Pumaren, parang nagtampo yata si Alvin Teng which prompted him to offer Jeric's services to UST instead.

Sayang, akala ko din.

Jeron has the tools to be a superstar in college, but he's far from a sure thing. I'd say he's similar to Joshua Webb (a better version from what I've seen) in that he managed to dominate the high school ranks with his athleticism but will need to work on his skill set to make an impact in college.

Let us just see next year on what he brings to his new team. As we always say, college ball is an entirely different level from HS and grade school.

@daine_bmeg hahaha! wise decision din kasi yun e, in fairness sa kanya. bakit ka pupunta sa ADMU kung may Kiefer at bakit ka pupunta sa NU kung may Ray Parks. naisip nya siguro na bakit di nya itry sa isang team na pwede NYANG maging team. hehe.

@jazzper wag naman sana syang matulad kay Webb! hahaha. though mas maganda naman credentials ni Jeron kesa kay Webb. may pagkatigas lang din kasi ng ulo si Webb kaya nagkasira-sira laro nya. and meron din namang mga big names from high school na nasustain nila ung laro nila sa college. Kiefer, even I think Baser Amer (though not so). also Jvee. and I'm sure marami pang iba. so let's just wait and see. in the meantime, naka-focus ako ngayon sa Women's volleyball. dun kasi kami laging magaling. hahaha.

hahaha! oa naman po ang magiging pang-aangkin nya kung sa UP. no offense sa mga tiga-UP dito ha. pero syempre gugustuhin nyang pumunta sa team na may makakatulong man lang sya. well, at least sa Archers, I can foresee an explosive tandem in Jeron and Norbert Torres at least 2 yrs from now. at kung mag-iimprove pa si AVO at si Tampus, we will have a competitive team in the future.

Need nila talaga ng shooter sa team, para mas gumaling yung mga bigmen nila!
