Up 3-1 this time, Talk ‘N Text wary of dangerous Powerade squad

With its 100-97 win in Game Four, Powerade managed to cut its series deficit in the PBA Philippine Cup finals against Talk ‘N Text to 3-1. The Tropang Texters know exactly how that feels; after all, just one series ago, they were in the same position.

After successfully overhauling their deficit against the Powerade Tigers in the semis, Talk ‘N Text coach Chot Reyes commented that the Tropang Texters “won the series at the end of Game Four when we sat at the dugout in semi circle, looked at each other’s eyes and said we still have a chance.”

Now they have to snuff that same hope from the believing Tigers. But to do that, though, they’ll need to come out with a better effort than in Game Four.

“We need to come out stronger than we did today,” Reyes said moments after Game Four. “And very matter-of-factly, show my players how much more Powerade wanted it today.”

“[Powerade] came out with a lot of urgency, obviously more than we had,” added Talk ‘N Text team manager Aboy Castro. “They were playing without any pressure, and that’s the way to play.”

The Powerade frontline showed up in a big way in Game Four, outplaying their more heralded Talk ‘N Text counterparts. Sean Anthony posted 19 points and 11 rebounds, Doug Kramer had 11 points and nine rebounds and even Rommel Adducul scored in double figures with 10 points, six boards and three blocks.

The Tigers banked on that, plus another superb scoring performance from Gary David with 35 points to stay alive in the series after losing the first three games.

“I’m sure what they’re thinking right now is to take it one game at a time, and really breaking it down quarter-by-quarter, possession-by-possession,” Castro said.

“It’s the exact same thing that we have to do. But we have to come out with a lot more urgency, a real sense of urgency.”
