Revised PBA trade: Al-Hussaini, Guevarra for Lassiter

Post by pbaddict on Wed Feb 22, 2012 5:00 am

    First topic message reminder :

MANILA,Philippines—A new proposal is reportedly in the works as Powerade and Petron continue to work on a deal that will send rookie Marcio Lassiter to the Blazers, even as Tigers coach Bo

Perasol hopes nobody from among his big-hearted wards will be dealt.

The Boosters, a source told the Inquirer Tuesday, are now putting Rabeh Al-Hussaini on the trading block together with Rey Guevarra for Lassiter.

The new proposal comes after PBA commissioner Chito Salud shot down the initial trade proposal that could have sent Lassiter to Petron Blaze for Guevarra and Noynoy Baclao, a former No. 1 pick.

Salud had asked the ballclubs involved to revise the proposal and make it more balanced.

“If they get me to decide, I will not change anybody from my team,” said Perasol.

“We came from a winning conference and it would be best if we keep the pillars of the team intact,” said Perasol.

“But then again, it’s management decision to alter the lineup,” added the team captain of the UP Fighting Maroons in the 90s.

News about the Lassiter trade came right after news broke out that Coca-Cola has sold its PBA franchise to San Miguel Corp.

Coca-Cola denied the sale and clarified that the Powerade Tigers remain under its control.

Aside from Lassiter, selected fourth overall by the Tigers in the Draft, Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference Gary David and top rookie pick JV Casio form the lethal triumvirate of the Tigers.

Power forward Doug Kramer is having a breakout season and the tough-minded Sean Anthony had surprised just about everybody with the tenacity he showed against Talk ‘N Text in their losing stint in the Finals.

“We’re reaping the fruits of our sacrifices and it defies reason to replace these guys,” said Perasol, whose Tigers opened the Commissioner’s Cup with a 122-120 win over the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters.

Meanwhile, the Tigers will retire the No. 19 jersey of former MVP Kenneth Duremdes before their game against the Meralco Bolts on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-3 Duremdes spent two seasons with the Tigers (2007-2008) and is now part of the coaching staff.

Three PBA teams left last night for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to play a couple of games before Overseas Filipino Workers in the Gulf state.

The Elasto Painters tackle the Barako Bull Energy tomorrow before taking on the Barangay Ginebra Kings the following day at the Al Shabab Club.

A lot of people here which their team are not included in this transaction are so affected...that is my observation..as PBA fan I've been following all trade transaction and I notice that when other team having trade transaction, this two team (PBB and POW) hindi naman nakialam...maybe other teams are afraid of this transaction...hahahah. ..tingin ko lang...

I hope the commissioner will put an end of this issue, maybe approve or killing this trade/no revision..kawawa kasi mga kasali na players..others just dragging the names of the player which they think the two teams can benefit...dami na mga sinabi...Instead of making the issue more complicated just focus which team you belong...very simple....

Dapat Rabeh+ Baclao + Guevarra for Lassiter,, yun fair talaga

    I guess fair din ito

Look.. Rabeh comes from injury, Baclao and Guevarra are seldom use

Lassiter is a proven player, with no injury

Sacrifice na nga dito ang Powerade kasi magbabakasakali lang sila sa mga players na to..

For the Petron fans, we are not supposed to post in this trade because, 1.this is a news article thread. We can only discuss on a discussion thread. 2. Hindi po natin board ito. To avoid any untoward or unhealthy discussion, doon nalang po tayo sa board natin. All of us here have their own opinions regarding the impending trade. Some of us PBB fans think that the trade is fair and some of us dont like this trade to pursue anymore. Conversely, fans of other teams not only Powerade will think otherwise. Sa tingin ko wala na po itong katapusan na argumento. We said our piece so better yet be silent about it nalang tayong mga PBB fans. Doon nalang po tayo magkwentuhan sa board natin. Salamat.

fair enough, cmon bakit successful last conf and pow? ofcourse kay gary david hands down, im not saying na wala naitulong si marcio and jvee thats what you expect from no1 and no4 pick.. but main reason is gary david and nakalaban ng pow e rain or shine.. what if tnt sa semis? what if petron? what if ginebra? what if alaska? or even bmeg? iba na ang atmosphere pag semis. plus rabeh is a no2 pick, pow needs a good shooting center

I have to agree and disagree to that. agree because, in terms of paper, it's fairer compared to rabeh and guevarra. I disagree because they will take a lot of minutes from anthony and cramer who are having a great season.

    Lassiter Trade Off For Now

(Al-Shabab Sports Club Dubai, UAE )
8 p.m. — Rain or Shine vs Ginebra

MANILA, Philippines — Powerade’s prized rookie Marcio Lassiter has been removed from the trading block, at least until the end of this conference, after team management apparently took note of the negative public reaction to the move and also because the PBA Commissioner’s Office rejected the deal that would have brought the Fil-American to Petron.

A person privy to the negotiations said Thursday that Powerade will hold the trade in abeyance even as the sale of the Powerade franchise under the banner of Coca-Cola continued to be negotiated.

Coca-Cola has reportedly offered the Powerade franchise to San Miguel Corporation, also the owner of Petron, for P100 million, but the talks have stalled although SMC still holds the right of first refusal for the franchise.

PBA commissioner Chito Salud rejected the trade that would have brought Lassiter to Petron in exchange for Noy Baclao and Rey Guevarra, two seldom used players whose combined talents, some say, do not approximate the value of Lassiter.

The most significant voice against the trade, besides Salud’s, emanated from Powerade coach Bo Perasol who said, in effect, that trading Lassiter would be counterproductive to the team’s objective of winning a PBA title.

If we want to win a title, why are we trading this player, Perasol seemed to be saying.

Lassiter formed the troika that included Gary David and Jvee Casio that powered the Tigers to the PBA All-Filipino finals three weeks ago which Talk ‘N Text eventually won.

“They’re keeping Marcio at least for this conference. If there will be another negotiation, probably next conference or next season,” said the source.

If another trade is initiated, Salud reportedly wanted a more equitable exchange of talent. He has asked the two parties to revise the proposal.

The Tigers opened their Commissioner’s Cup campaign with a come-from-behind 122-120 win over the Elasto Painters last Sunday
