
AFTER absorbing back-to-back losses, Powerade will try to make it to the semifinal round of the PBA governors Cup the hard way.
The tigers will try to nail down their fifth win against B-Meg in the last road game of the elimination round at the Ibalong Centrum Recreation Arena in Legazpi City.
The Tigers have suddenly lost their bite after scoring four straight victories as they suffered losses from Air 21 (128-121) and Meralco (91-78) and have dropped to 4-4. Another setback could mean an early vacation for the boys of coach Dolreich “Bo” Perasol.
The Llamados are aching to bounce back from an 89-72 setback inflicted by Talk N Text last Wednesday. They are currently tied with the Tropang Texters at second spot with 5-3.
Powerade has a more potent and veteran import in the person of Omar Sneed who came in as a replacement for Rashad McCants. The 35-year old Sneed averaged 26.5 points, 16.83 rebounds, 5.33 assists, one steal and three errors in 39.33 minutes.
He will go up against 23-year old Marcus Blakely who has 22.75 points, 11.88 rebounds, 3.63 assists, 3.25 steals, 2.25 blocked shots and 3.88 errors in 36.63 minutes.
Local match-up pits Gary David against two-time Most Valuable Player James yap.
David is the leading local scorer of the tournament with 25.5 points aside from 4.25 rebounds, 2.88 assists, one steal and 3.25 errors in 37.38 minutes. Yap is good for 14,25 points, 3,75 rebounds, 2.13 assists, 0.5 blocked shot and 2.5 errors in 35.13 minutes.
No other Powerade local averages in twin figures in scoring. Prized rookie JVee Casio comes close to that with nine points aside from 2.75 rebounds, 6.13 assists, 0.4 steal and two errors in 32.63 minutes.
Over at B-Meg, Peter June Simon is good for 11.2 points, two rebounds, 0.8 assist, 0.6 steal and one error in 23.8 minutes. However, he is coming off a scoreless stint against Talk N Text..
The elimination round ends Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with Meralco meeting B-Meg at 4:15 pm and Talk N Text taking on league-leader Rain Or Shine at 6:30 pm. (BP)
