Power Rankings: Party of Five
This is my final Power Rankings for the 2012 PBA Governor’s Cup and with the top pick in this list is my perceived choice to become the Best Player of the Conference.
Game starts now!
Note: How I come out with my ratings? For those who played PBFANTASY, this list is like that – but I involved a bunch of modifications on the computations like minutes, turnovers, and now that we’re in the playoffs… wins.
THE BPC RACE: (AS OF JULY 20, 2012)
The top five are now about to clash with each other in six major categories.

So one must wonder… as to why the hell is my table color-coded. Well the black fonts are worth four points, the blue fonts are three points, the green fonts are two points, and the orange fonts are one point. The players that reached the finals will have an additional five points and if there’s a tie, automatically the lowest score will be played.
This is how I’ll develop my prediction for the Governor’s Cup BPC.
This is my list by the way so if you’re trying to tell me that my list is wrong then do so.
5 / JAMES YAP
I am sorry James Yap fans but your idol is last on this list. Marc Pingris did not weaken his stats – Peter June Simon did. His poor shot-making is another flaw to his undoing. Even if he has the edge against David and Caguioa for making the finals, individually his stake isn’t rock solid.
4 / MARK CAGUIOA
Ginebra’s monumental do-or-die collapse caused him his Best Player of the Conference Award. This is easily his alley because with the Robert Jaworski retirement ceremony where Jawo virtually told Spark that he’s his heir apparent. But with the Kings ousted, I wonder how this fares to his cause.
3 / GARY DAVID
Even if the Powerade Tigers have long been eliminated, David is still a darkhorse for the BPC plum. That is how dominating El Granada’s stats are. This is why if he fails to win the MVP award, it will be heartbreaking for Gary D.
2 / PAUL LEE
We got stuck from loving the other guards in the list that we forget that The Lethal Weapon trumps the four here in terms of assists and three-point percentages. And let’s not forget that he is partly responsible for Rain or Shine’s first finals trip.
1 / MARC PINGRIS
Of all the players in the list, he is the one that doesn’t average in double figures. However, the guy is a double-double magnet and even if he plays in the interior, he dishes out more than three assists per game. While he is not B-Meg’s star player, he is carrying the load left by the dribble penetrating JC Intal and the carom-hunting sweet-shooting Joe Devance.
I know the PBA holds dear the trio of Mark Caguioa, Gary David, and James Yap as the Governor’s Cup BPC and I know these three are also the leaders in the MVP race but I am looking for to seeing Marc Pingris winning the race.
If Caguioa or David wins this, then the MVP will be for them. Otherwise, everything you know will be wrong.
