Tempers flared moments after B-MEG’s Game Six victory over Rain or Shine in the Governors’ Cup semifinals.
Injured Llamados forward Joe Devance and Elasto Painters import Jamelle Cornley got into a shouting match as the two teams exited the game, a result of the trash-talking between the two men during the game. Cooler heads prevailed, preventing the incident from escalating further.
But witnesses saw the two still jawing at each other even on their way out of the arena.
B-MEG team manager Alvin Patrimonio and Rain or Shine enforcer Beau Belga also had a heated exchange of words during the game.
Llamados coach Tim Cone refused to be drawn into a discussion of the incidents.
“Too bad it got a little chirpy there in the end at the hall way. I don’t want to get on that level, we didn’t do anything wrong out there, and all we did was to win the basketball game,” Cone said after the game.
But his counterpart, Yeng Guiao, complained about the jawing from the B-MEG sidelines.
“Joe Devance was trash-talking our import while Alvin Patrimonio did the same thing to Beau Belga. I’ve been warned and called for technical fouls before for doing the same thing, it seems the referees missed out on giving any of those to Patrimonio and Devance,” said Guiao.
“Bakit kapag ako ang gumagawa noon, hindi pwede?”
Belga, who began his career with Purefoods, said he wasn’t to blame for the incident with Patrimonio.
“I wasn’t the one who started it. He was walking towards me kaya ako sinalubong ko rin lang. Mayroon siyang mga sinasabi sa akin na hindi ko maintindihan,” Belga told InterAKTV.
Patrimonio, for his part, said Belga got the wrong impression.
“I was just trying to encourage him,” said Patrimonio. “He just got the wrong idea.”
