Far Eastern University coach Glenn Capacio will handle the UAAP-NCAA All-Star team when they take on a combined team from the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) and Liga Pilipinas in the “Pinoy Basketbol, Kakampi Nyo," charity fund-raiser on Monday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Leading the UAAP-NCAA squad are FEU players Reil Cervantes and Paul Sanga, announced by UAAP basketball tournament head Mark Molina after Game 1 of Thursday’s UAAP men’s basketball finals between Ateneo and University of the East.
Joining Cervantes and Sanga in the UAAP side are Woody Co of University of the Philippines, National University’s Jewel Ponferrada, Jan Colina of Adamson, La Sall’es Joshua Webb and Jeric Fortuna of University of Santo Tomas.
Molina said that the UAAP invited one player from each member schools to play in the game with the exception of Ateneo and UE. Seven more players from the NCAA will join the UAAP team in their 5 p.m. encounter with the PBL-Liga Pilipinas squad.
In the 7 p.m. second game, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)-backed Powerade Team Pilipinas will square off with the Smart-Gilas Pilipinas team of Serbian coach Rajko Toroman.
Smart-Gilas, a team composed of amateur standouts, is in a quest to qualify in the 2012 London Olympics.
Yeng Guiao will again call the shots for Powerade-Team Pilipinas, which competed in the recent FIBA-Asia Championship.
Different basketball stakeholders staged the charity event with the proceeds going to the victims of typhoon “Ondoy" which killed hundreds in different parts of Luzon.
The winning team will receive P100,000 while the losing squad will get P50,000. – GMANews.TV
