UAAP, NCAA stars clash this Saturday

Post by jamj3 on Sat Nov 14, 2009 3:57 am

Games on Saturday
(The Arena, San Juan)
1 p.m. — UAAP vs NCAA (Jrs)
3 p.m. — All-Star Side Events
4 p.m. — UAAP vs NCAA (Srs)

The question as to who is the country’ top collegiate league this season will be settled this Saturday when stars of UAAP and NCAA clash in the Bantay Bata 163 All-Star Games at The Arena in San Juan.

Five players from the Smart Gilas national team, led by league MVP Dylan Ababou of University of Santo Tomas, former MVP Rabeh Al-Hussaini of Ateneo, and Aldrech Ramos of Far Eastern University, will lead the UAAP squad against an NCAA selection.

Joining the three are Ateneo's Nico Salva, Jai Reyes, Eric Salamat and Ryan Buenafe, UE's Paul Lee and Pari Llagas, FEU's JR Cawaling, RR Garcia, and Reil Cervantes, La Salle's Kish Co, Adamson's Jan Colina, Alvin Padilla of UP, and Kokoy Hermosisima of National University.

Nonoy Baclao, Elmer Espiritu, and Khazim Mirza were supposed to be included in the lineup but they will leave today for Malaysia to play for the Philippine Patriots in the ASEAN Basketball League.

Despite the absence of the three, the UAAP stars are still heavily favored to prevail over the NCAA quintet.

The NCAA team, on the other hand, will be spearheaded by seven players from reigning champion San Sebastian, namely: Finals MVP Jimbo Aquino, Calvin Abueva, Ronald Pascual, Ian Sangalang, Pamboy Raymundo, Dave Najorda, and Gilbert Bulawan.

League MVP John Wilson of JRU will also play despite his announcement that he will forego his final year with the Heavy Bombers.
